I’m indifferent to how they pick, but prior to the changes it apparently was very secretive and left a lot of people questioning favoratism.

With the changes, they are trying to make it more believable and transparent.

At the end of the day, I feel they give too many awards out, and it seems like more participation medals…

Perhaps, or just not listening to much of the newer stuff online? Tune in radio is very good, and bbc one tends to be on the forefront of the “hits”.
