Google Cancels I/O Developer Conference Because of Coronavirus Concerns
I actually think that cancelling all these huge travel events is a very very good thing, but not because of coronavirus or anything.
Google and these other tech companies are trying to push eco friendliness, efficiency, etc. But everyone flying to one place to congregate in a big room to look at things, when they could have as easily researched new products online and watched the big presentations on a computer screen, is obviously ridiculous if you think global warming is a big deal. I’m not an eco warrior or anything like it - I try to avoid one use plastic water bottles, but think plastic bags are far more sanitary, and very efficient, especially if you reuse them as lunch bags afterwards. But there are far too many people who preach eco friendliness and don’t think twice about flying to a huge conference just because they want to.
