I am the same even with my laptop and tablet and phone I turn off updates and only ever do something if I absolutely need to. If it’s not broken why fix it. Lol
It really depends on.
I would recommend updates regarding safety when using WIN or Android.
I do updates on my LINUX devices.
But I had never any problems doing so.
And if there would issues show up, I can “downgrade” everything.
Back in the day I had a win 95 system that I never updated and worked wonderful, my young son thought he was doing me a favor and did all the updates and crash boom never worked the same. That being said I was able to uninstall then reinstall an older version from disc then make sure no updates were done. It took a long time to get used to other versions of windows and Linux as well. I surely miss my win95 hell I miss my flip phone . I remember thinking I was all it when I got a VCR and Atari my neighbors came over to watch the VCR.

The best WIN ever was that XP.
All other, newer versions are/were really crap.
I am so glad that I havent to use this bad OS now.
I had to use Mac-OS (not bad) and MS at the university.
To take care about what my students were producing,
because our programs had to run on all platforms.
Now a pensioner, I can use my LINUX MINT only and I am happy with it.
Not fighting against blue screens and cryptic error reports any more.
