If the changed the bassup to a lower frequency instead of using midrange I think it would sound better

Those bassup makes sense to those who are not using an eq.

Rarely use the BassUp on my headphones, makes the majority of my tracks sound muddy…it does occasionally get a use on the Motion+ though

For earphones I dont use bass up as has been said.
On speakers tho, it.does help without.forcing via eq.
The fact they keep using mid range speakers n crossovers is what makes the difference. If the speakers were rated at 20k instead of 70/80k then they’d take bass a lot more easily, and wouldn’t even need bass up.
Have to say that the BassUp function is pants, adds zero benefit to any music. The normal sound profile with BassUp off is great as is for most genres I’ve found. The Allman Bros live from Fillmore West '71 sounded awesome in my busy office today!

I agree. ANC is not needed all the time. I don’t find me using it often.
